Sector of Timios Prodromos, Imathia prefecture
(Can't climb anylonger because the monks destroyed the bolds)!
The climbing sector of Timios Prodromos is the closest climbing sector to Thessaloniki. It is a very picturesque site over the Aliakmonas river. The only drawback of the place, is the fact that the climbing rocks are exactly by the road, and as a result there is a lot of traffic noise, especially in weekends, when many visit the Monastery of Timios Prodromos. What is more, you need to be particularly careful, due to the number of the bypassing cars, as the openness of the place is not that large. The sector addresses to climbers of any level, except for those of a very high one, as the most difficult route is a 8a+ and it is not so wellknown for its beauty. Another characteristic of the place are also the frequent bolts of the routes, which helps the beginners to enhance their self-confidence.
HOW TO REACH THERE
Access is very easy. While you are driving to Veroia, and after the exit of the freeway, do not turn right, towards the city of Veroia, but rather, turn left, towards Vergina. Continue, until you pass the bridge of the dam. Right after the end of the dam, turn right, and drive by the riverbanks. Five minutes later, you will come accross two tunnels. Right after the second tunnel, there is a cement road on your left. You turn there, and you continue until the end of the road. When you reach the end of the road, turn right and you will see the climbing sector. Your destination is about 50min. away from Thessaloniki.
