Climbing in Kranochori, Kavala prefecture

The climbing sector of Kranochori is the newest in the area of Kavala and it has been equipped with routes in the beginning of 2009. It includes about 20 routes, that are all of sportive character and they address to climbers of any level. It is a very beautiful climbing sector and it remains cool during the summer. It has western orientation meaning you can exploit the routes inside the dome any time of the year. The only routes that you cannot climb before 4-5 o'clock during the summer are number 1&2.

How to get there

Driving from Thessaloniki, you take the exit to Kavala and then change your direction towards Drama. You pass the village Amygdaleonas and you continue for 2klm more, until you get to a crossroad where you turn towards Palia Kavala-Lekani-Koryfes (the crossroad is right after the store "Jumbo"). The total distance from Kavala is about 30klm. After that, you will see on your right the village Polynero. You turn there, and by the time you enter the village you will see a small sign for Kranochori. You drive to Kranochori for about 500m and then you will see a basin on your left. Next to it you have to check for a small red arrow. You can park there and follow the path as you can see in the photo. The path is signed with a redcolor spray and following the direction of the arrows will make your life easier until you get to the rocks. It is an easy-walking path and it takes about 20min. It is important to keep in mind that around the whole area there is no cellphone signal and so you have to be sure abour how to get to the climbing sector, as well as how to return from there, too.

All the routes are 15-30m long.
