Climbing in Kardamyli – Peloponnese
Mani is known for its history and topography. The terrain of western Mani in combination with a huge network of trails connecting the villages together, compose an ideal terrain for all outdoor pursuits. At the exit of Kardamyli to Stoupa and on the beach Kalamitsi rises an imposing rock overlooking the Messinian Gulf.
In March 2013 at the invitation of 2407 mountain activities based in Kardamyli, Malamas George and Ervin Witowschi visited the crag and considered it as an appropriate with very good quality limestone and spread lines that reach 80 meters and therefore large climbing interest.
On 10th March 2013 with the assistance and support of the 2407 mountain activities and voluntary-cultural society GAIA the two climbers began creating the climbing park Kalamitsi. In just two months the first two sectors Karteri and Gerakofolia were completed and now have 20 climbing routes from 5a to 6b. Should be noted that the financial support was entirely from local professionals in Kardamyli and Stoupa whom we thank.
Approch – Access
From Kalamata Kardamyli is 35km. After 35-45 minutes and after you get out of Kardamyli and head into Stoupa you find a sign(1 km after you exit Kardamyli) on the left which directs to Proastio-Exohori. Turn left and stop after 100m. The crag is located on our left hand. The orientation of the crag is NW and just few meters above the sea level. The summer you can climb only until 14.00 at noon and after that you can enjoy the beach.
